Steven HorwitzSteven Horwitz, February 18, 2 PM, SCAR 4

Steven Horwitz is Professor of Economics at St. Lawrence University in New York. He is the author of Microfoundations and Macroeconomics: An Austrian Perspective (Routledge, 2000) and Monetary Evolution, Free Banking, and Economic Order (Westview, 1992). He has written extensively on Hayekian political economy, monetary theory and history, and the economics of gender and the family. Dr. Horwitz will give a talk entitled “Wal-Mart to the Rescue: Private Enterprise’s Response to Hurricane Katrina,” in conjunction with Dr. Hicks’s Business and Economic Ethics class.

C. Bradley Thompson is Research Professor at Clemson University in South Carolina. Professor Thompson is the author of the prize-winning book John Adams and the Spirit of Liberty (University Press of Kansas, 1998). He has lectured around the country on education reform and the American Revolution, and his op-ed essays have appeared in scores of newspapers around the country and abroad. Dr. Thompson will give a talk on the political thought of John Adams in Dr. Jules Gleicher’s Political Philosophy of the American Revolutionary Era class.

David MayerDavid Mayer, March 25, 2 PM SCAR 20

David Mayer is Professor of Law and History at Capital University in Ohio, where he teaches courses in American constitutional history, English and American legal history, and intellectual property, as well as a seminar in Libertarianism and the Law. He has written The Constitutional Thought of Thomas Jefferson (University Press of Virginia, 1994) and several articles in law reviews, history and political science journals. Dr. Mayer will give a talk entitled “Thomas Jefferson and the `Holy Cause of Freedom’” in Dr. Gleicher’s Political Philosophy of the American Revolutionary Era class.
